Christmas in Majorca

Majorca land of sun, sea and sand. But theres a little more going on in this beautiful Balearic paradise than initially meets the eye, especially in winter time. From a November wine-testing in sa Pobla, to the Changing of the Guard of Honour in bustling Palma, Majorca has got plenty of treats and delights hidden away just beneath its delightful aesthetics. The most popular of the Balearic Isles also plays host to many events and shows specifically themed around Christmas. If its music and theatre youre into, then a host of events are on offer. Junior Christmas concerts are often a big draw, though other events such as family theatre with this season offering Beauty and the Beast are hugely popular at Alcudia's Auditorium. Casa de Cultura in Alcudia is also offering a production of Jack and the Beanstalk, so theres a real treat in store for anyone would be culture vultures in Majorca this winter. Remember, at this time of the year youll see a different side to the famously popular summer holiday destination, and many of its 850,000 inhabitants would be in a rush to agree. Winters are mild to cool, so its no surprise to find out that Majorca reveals its indoor delights as the nights grow darker and the prospect of cosier evenings becomes evermore enticing. Theres a whole undiscovered world out there even amongst places with which youre already familiar so keep your eyes open and you might just discover the next hidden gem in the crown of the Balearics.

Dia de Virgen de Carmen Celebrations

July is a spiritually uplifting time for sea-faring crafts in the Balearics, with the Da de Virgen de Carmen providing a key focal point for many sailors. It is tradition for fishing boats in particular to carry statues of the Virgin of Carmen on board on the day of celebrations, July 16th, with many also carrying lit torches in honour of the adopted patron saint of mariners and fishermen, who is said to protect those at sea, according to an Old Testament tale.Various statues of El Carmen will be paraded both on land and at sea as part of the day of tributes to her, with many colourful processions proving to be an eye-catching memorial and a must-see event on a day when ships are said to be blessed by her presence. The day is regularly rounded off with fireworks, and where better to watch the stunning flashes of light crash against the night sky than out at sea on board Nikita?Taking to the water that day assumes an added symbolism to make your holiday extra special, and you can set sail safe in the knowledge that if you have faith, its the safest day of the year to be at sea!Book now to be a part of this magical experience in the Balearics this summer. Where you witness the spectacle is up to you, with the possibility of sailing to or from locations across Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, subject to availabilty.

Menorca and Ibiza Summer Yacht Charters

Holidaymakers who enjoy immersing themselves in local culture while theyre away are in for a treat if they book to join us on board Nakita this month. Its hard to imagine that theres a better equipped Beneteau 57 sailing the Balearics this summer, and its the most exciting and relaxing method of exploring this exciting group of islands, opening up access to tranquil, unspoilt expanses of coastline that would be otherwise inaccessible or too far off the beaten track to be found by road.Once moored in one of the many marinas and ports around the islands, youre free to wonder into the many enticing towns and villages this part of the world has to offer, and June is a very good month to witness quintessential life in Spanish territory.Menorca celebrates the fiesta of Sant Joan in Ciutadella on June 23rd and 24th, a period of merriment based around the concept of representatives of various bodies and trades riding on horseback to a small local chapel to honour their patron. This is followed by numerous Medieval games that are also played out on horseback, some of which include jousting bouts or arm-in-arm racing that are both nerve-wracking and exhilarating to watch. And if, amongst all the celebration, a little part of you pines for home, satisfy that craving with a glass of gin traditionally enjoyed with lemonade or fresh lemon juice whilst observing the parades and festivities as a nod to the former British settlement on the island!Horses also feature in Majorca for the Sant Antoni de Juny fiesta, but for different reasons, as you can enjoy the bizarre sight of locals dressing up as horses amongst the great feast that takes place in Arta, while in Pollenca, the Corpus Christi day celebrations incorporate a Dance of the Eagles in the main city square. The Romeria de Sant Marcal is a fair celebrated in various parts of the island on the last day of the month, where local pottery and ceramic creations take to the fore.Ibiza joins in with its neighbours by also celebrating Sant Joan, albeit with more of a party flavour and mass bonfires, while Formentera also plays on the fire theme as they light up at midnight, but the celebration here takes on a more spiritual approach by focussing on burning away any bad memories that have taken place since the last incarnation of the festival. You wont have any bad memories of your trip to the Balearics if you base yourself on board Nakita. We can take you where you want to go during this fun month for the islands paradises, or simply sit back and let us make the decisions for you as part of a relaxing magical mystery tour.Take a look at our Availability Calendar to find out when you can set sail with us.

Enjoy La Diada de Sant Jordi in Barcelona

February 14th is the date synonymous with love in the UK, but in Catalonia they wait until a warmer date in the calendar to express their desire, with St Georges Day the time to join us if you want to experience Barcelona at its most passionate.Named in local tongue as La Diada de Sant Jordi, in honour of the citys patron saint that the British celebrate on the same day, April 23rd hosts the bright and colourful event youd expect from a celebration-loving city. Its famous thoroughfare, La Rambla, is turned into a river of blood and gold Catalonian flags, draped over stalls selling single red roses for her and books for him, given the tradition of giving said items on this romantic day.The roses are understandable, stemming from the tale of the flower presented to the kings daughter on this sacred day after George or Jordi had slain a dragon terrorising the region, but the book link is slightly more unusual. The roots of this tradition are linked to World Book Day, which is also celebrated on April 23rd to commemorate the deaths of celebrated authors Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare.Do the romantic thing and stock up on roses and books before your jaunt with us on board Nakita, which will look beautiful decked out with red roses a perfectly relaxing surrounding in which to enjoy your new reading material (unless youd prefer to be a little more amorous!).We can tailor your package to include a romantic meal on board, and dont forget that we specialise in honeymoon cruises and sunset cruises, so if youre planning on taking your loved one to Barcelona in late April, there can be no better place to express your commitment to the person that matters most to you.

Full Throttle Sailing With Nakita

The Formula One season returns with renewed excitement this month, and whilst that may seem a funny thing to discuss on a site devoted to a yacht, we think its relevant because we may just have the perfect package available for those seeking a summer holiday for those seeking thrills and chills in equal measure. The Spanish Grand Prix weekend takes place at the Circuit de Catalunya, just north of Barcelona, from Friday 7th May to Sunday 9th May, and with Nakita sailing from the citys Port Vell at this time, a saunter on the seas with us is the perfect way to unwind before or after taking in all the high octane action. You can marvel at two entirely contrasting feats of engineering by comparing the brute speed and roaring engine tones on the track to the gentle laps of the waves and the soothing sounds of the ocean as you stroll on board with us for anything from a couple of hours to a whole week, depending on your preference.Temperatures in Barcelona around this time of year are in the very comfortable high teens or low twenties, making this an ideal time to set sail with us. Just watch the thermometers shoot up trackside though, as local hero Fernando Alonso steps inside his new Ferrari to compete against big name former world champions such as Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, not to mention hot contenders Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Massa. It promises to be a great time to be in the city dont miss your chance for the perfect all-round break!
